SEA GAMES: Shuttlers Shine At Istora

DOUBLE JOY: Men’s and women’s teams blast past rivals to check into semi-finals

Liew Daren's 22-20, 21-14 defeat to Vietnam's Nguyen Tien Minh put Malaysia 1-0 down after the first singles but the 2009 silver medallists came storming back to take the tie 3-1.

The win set up a semi-final meeting Singapore, who defeated Philippines 3-0, and head coach Tan Kim Her said the team are ready  for another tilt at the final.

"We have the best possible draw to the final, having avoided Thailand. I think we stand a better chance against Singapore, 60-40 at least.

"We dropped a point today but Daren was playing against a top-10 player and has shown a little bit of improvement.

"The first doubles had a slow start but that was only because they were playing this Vietnam pair for the first time," said Kim Her, who was referring to Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah's 21-14, 21-8 win over Dao Manh Thang-Bui Bang Duc.

Arif Latif's 21-8, 21-10 win over Le Ha Anh gave Malaysia a 2-1 lead before Mak Hee Chun-Ong Soon Hock wrapped up the tie by beating Duong Bao Duc-Nguyen Hoang Nam 21-10, 21-14 .
